October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

This time was doubly hard for us all because her mom, mine and my cousin's grandma, got very sick and passed away suddenly. My aunt was getting ready for her last chemo treatment right after the memorial service. Because of her vulnerable immune system she wasn't technically allowed to be around many people whatsoever so she had to wear a mask at the service and try to keep her distance from everyone despite them wanting to hug on her and support her.

I am now proud to say that, after intense chemo and a double mastectomy, she is 100% cancer free!! Every year for the past two years my cousin has thrown a party on her behalf on the anniversary of her being cancer free. =) It's a wonderful, BIG celebration. This past year the American Cancer Society was involved and we raised money for the cause.

So in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month I'm going to be sporting manicures to show my support for all those who have won or lost their fight with this horrible disease.

My friend Jessica, find her here on Instagram!, and I plan on doing twin manis in the month of October as well! I'm really looking forward to that and to celebrating the fact that my aunt is still cancer free!

The color above is China Glaze's Naked. I got it as part of a set last year at Sally's Beauty Supply during the month of October for the Susan G Komen  foundation.

Beauty Boutique??

Hey guys! So, as you've probably seen I sell Avon! I'm... an Avon Lady.

With that being said, I just thought I'd share a little bit about it. Don't worry, It's not doing to be some long, drawn out thing pimping myself out for orders.

Anyway, Avon makes it so much easier now to branch out and find customers. If you live in a small town like I do it's not always easy to find people who don't already have an Avon Rep or who don't use Avon. You can now have an online store that is accessible 24/7 (mine is found here!) so you can have customers from all over the country if you wish! They can have their Avon products sent right to their door!

I was playing around on their website and saw they have a Facebook App! How cool is that?? I already have a page dedicated to what I sell here. But this is something completely different. When you click on
Beauty Boutique it takes you to a page where you can see my recommendations and my favorites, plus what's popular right now. You can add stuff to your shopping cart from there or you can look at the full site by just one click of a button! It's super simple and pretty fun to explore.

.:A Mini Birthday Haul:.

It's after midnight on on the 21st... which means it is now 2 days until my birthday! Yes, I am counting down because I love birthdays! I don't think anything special is planned this year, especially since it falls on a Monday... and Monday's around here (as I'm sure is the same for 99.9984756% of everyone alive) are tiring.

I am dog/house sitting this weekend and since I knew I'd be by myself and undisturbed, I decided I'd treat myself to a mini early birthday haul!

I first heard about the first thing I got today from Lustrous Lacquer's post on her Facebook page. I'm keeping a look out to see if she does a mani/nail art blog post with it!

It is the Disney Villains collection by ELF! 12 mini polishes for $9.99! They also have false eye lashes and eyeshadow palettes in this Disney Villains collection. I've been looking out for this because I am a MAJOR Disney fan but my Walgreens was slacking in their displays! Finally, FINALLY, this morning (well, yesterday morning now...) they had them! I was actually walking into the store as they were setting up new displays! I may or may not have arrived just as they opened. ;)  If I have a sunny day tomorrow I plan on sitting outside and painting my nails to my heart's content and snapping pictures for swatches. I'll list all the names and stuff then. There are some fall colors in it that I have been wanting so I got lucky with that!

My next stop was Sally's Beauty Supply. I wasn't sure when I'd have time to go back there again and I wanted to take advantage of the coupon I got in the mail... So, I ventured in there for nail wheels and a quick dry top coat... I was not successful in finding the nail wheels. Seems like lately they're always sold out! =( But I was able to get the top coat I was interested in.

I have honestly never used this brand before so I'm excited to try it and compare it to Seche Vite! I love me some super speedy top coats!

And right next to Sally's in the strip mall is the Dollar Tree. Sometimes you can find some gems there so I never pass on an opportunity to go. Not all of this was nail related... but most of it is!

I have a lot of luck with ELF products and these are their Matte Lipsticks from their Studio Line with retails for $3 on their website or at Target. But I got each of these for one glorious dollar a piece! I am super excited to try these out soon!

I know you can hardly contain your excitement for the picture above! It's a great deal for something that's just going to be dunked in acetone anyway, right?? And I picked the red color because they match my bedroom.

This is just one of those handy, dandy little wire mesh pencil cups. I have a load of ink pens just laying in my home office area and the clutter is starting to bug me!

This is Aquafina Cooling Lip Balm... It does magical things to my lips and I'm addicted to it!! And by magical I mean that it is really good for dry and chapped lips. It's a lifesaver in the fall and winter when those north winds start blowing!

And for my last thing... I got this little contraption. I saw a YouTube video (can't remember who it was) that showed a girl storing her nail art stickers/decals in something like this and I thought it was a GENIUS idea!

So that's it for my mini early birthday haul. I'm satisfied with it! Be on the look out in the next few days for swatches of the Disney Villains polishes!

XOXOXOX

Daily Happenings:

  • I've been drinking french vanilla cappuccino all day...
  • It was a crazy gloomy day here in my neck of the woods... but I secretly like that kind of thing.
  • The person I look up to the most for blogging is Emily Eddington. Most of you will know her as EmilyNoel83. Or at Beauty Broadcast. I don't know her personally but we are from the same area and I just think that it's a fun little tidbit. =) Besides being so beautiful and talented, the reason why I enjoy her blog and YouTube channel so much is because she's honest and unbiased. She will tell you whether she likes it or not despite a company sending her a product to test.
  • I'm scouring the interwebs for designs for nail polish racks that are easy. I have one that I completely filled up and I have about 30 or more on my desk waiting for a home. That's not counting the Disney Villains colors and ones that I know I'll accumulate for my birthday.
  • I'm also scouring the interwebs to compare and contrast different homemade recipes for beauty products so I can create my own recipes for my store.
  • My store is GlimmeringPolish but it isn't open for business yet. I'm still working my magic on products. I hope to have it open for the holiday season.

Hey guys! Just a little update! =)

It is now officially less than 4 days away from my birthday! I am so prepared for the abundance of gift cards and nail polish gift bags (my favorite kind!)!

I am also going out of town this weekend, but I'm not going far AND I plan on getting a lot of swatching done for future blog posts! The swatching will include any new polishes I receive, whether by me or as gifts, this weekend! Hopefully I can remember my polish remover and all my supplies.

I plan on this weekend (starting tomorrow morning) to be FULL of fingernail swatches and video games. I can be a girly girl and a gamer, right? I thought so.

Anyway, I hope I have plenty of sunny moments outside this weekend and that it's cooler so Dooley (The mini poodle I'm dogsitting for this weekend) and I can sit outside and enjoy the fall weather. Also so I can paint my nails and take good pictures in the sunlight!

Have a super, fantastic, amazing weekend!

XOXOXOXO

What Kind of Black Magic Is This?

Hey guys! Welcome to the first installment of "What Kind Of Black Magic Is This?". In other words, did I find dupes in my collection?

So, I've had Avon's Mandarin Magic in my personal collection since the Forbidden Fruit's collection came out... but recently, when Walgreens was having a sale, I picked up a Sinful Colors orange called Courtney Orange. It wasn't until I was organizing my colors the other day that I noticed these two shades looked REALLY similar.

I was looking over Courtney Orange carefully so I could describe it here but I got sidetracked by the name. Like most polishes, Sinful Colors usually has cute/creative names for their polishes. Like Rain Storm for a blue. Or Heavy Metal for a silver color. But Courtney Orange? What was their thought process for this one? "Hey! Courtney likes orange! Let's name it Courtney Orange!" Not that there's anything wrong with it... I was just thrown by the lack of creativity. Does anyone know the story behind the color??

The name does not hamper my love of this orange, though! It's SO pretty!
Again, sorry for the horrible fingernails! =( They're slowly getting better!! =)

It's sparkly, almost a metallic-y orange. There is a gold iridescent shimmer to it. It's really hard to explain. You'll have to go buy it for yourself!

It's definitely got a red undertone to it so it isn't a true orange.

Now, to the Avon. To my eyes, this is an orange orange with gold shimmer flecks. GOSH! It's so pretty in real life! (Great candy corn nail art color! ;) )

The picture definitely does NOT do it justice, whatsoever!

ANYWAY... after close inspection they are NOT twins. Although, they could be siblings! ;)

I hope to do a "What Kind of Black Magic Is This" post regularly. Possibly once a week if I can manage that. It will depend on if I can find dupes that often! I don't have time to scour through polish displays to find a dupe a week! But I think it'd be fun to get into posting a regular "series" in my blog? Yes? No? Maybe?

Daily Happenings:

  • I helped my grandma hang pictures in her new house today. After my grandaddy passed away 2 months ago, I've really enjoyed spending so much time with her.
  • It is less than 4 days until my birthday!
  • I finally got my nail polish rack hung up on my wall and everyone that's seen it said it looks like I am opening my own nail polish store.... Which brings me to my next thing...
  • I am opening my own online store in the near future. I'm just finalizing everything. Products are being tested out before I open the shop because I want to bring everyone quality products!

I love the smell of Cold Leather in the morning. =)

As soon as Walgreens put their Sinful Colors on sale a couple of weeks ago I made a beeline for the store straight after work. That's when I picked up the entire Leather Luxe Collection.

Sinful Colors is actually my favorite brand. They're easier on the wallet, they have a VAST variety of colors and finishes. I mean, what would you NOT like about those two examples. And, as a general rule, they apply to the nail like a dream.

I didn't pay attention to the display when I snatched up these (and several other) colors so I didn't realize that they dried matte. I didn't have any matte polishes so I was pleasantly surprised when I did my swatches that there wasn't a bit of shine to them. I'm not used to that (In my book, the more shine the better!) but I really ended up liking the looks of them. The only one I have worn so far is Cold Leather. I wore it with a loose glitter nail art design to my sister's wedding this past Saturday. Sadly, I didn't have time to snap any pictures whatsoever. Besides being the bride's sister, I was also the cake lady. She went the cupcake route so I had DOZENS to bake and get just perfect.

I did, however, get a swatch the other night when I was doing my Gilmore Girls/Swatch fest.

The first coat was kind of streaky but with the second coat it was almost velvety looking.  I didn't bother putting top coat on it because that would defeat the purpose of using a matte polish! I have since purchased a matte top coat so I'm super excited to try that out!

So, without further adieu, I give you Cold Leather. =)

Sorry, I didn't get very many pictures of it. My lighting wasn't the best! But honestly, the polish looks exactly as it does in the bottle!
And again, sorry for the shortness of my nails. It's proving to be a pain in the butt to grow them out this time.
